The Passage of Time

Make the best out of your time.
Time is a limited treasure.

Time began on our first breath.

It was then that the hourglass of life started to run - each of us on our own chartered course, all blind to how long or how much of it is left.

On our first breath, we cry, somehow echoing the subconscious mind of this mystery, as to why we were given life in the first place when it is destined to end painfully some way sometime.

Yes, death is also in the hourglass. Chasing life.

We learned to divide time with things to do, adapting to routines almost mechanically as winded toys.

We feared missing out moments, frantically wanting to record every highlight, every milestone of our daily lives knowing that each second, minute, and hour gone instantly becomes a memory.

We chased life like madmen, lost in our hedonistic conquests each more prized than the former.

In the chase for time, have we lost the essence of life?

Is living designed to be a series of conquests? Were we born then to be conquerors or to be slaves of this world? What is our value?

We, humans, have expiration dates. But our value is not defined by the length of our years but by the way it was lived.

During this pandemic, perhaps we find ourselves questioning: ‘Has life lost its meaning when we are no longer free to roam as we please?’

Is the Fear of Missing Out so bad that each second spent in isolation feels like being robbed of the precious time remaining in our hourglasses?

Will time be our teacher or our worst enemy? Will it give us second chances, to recover and experience the world again, to say even our last pitiful goodbyes?

Time is teaching us a ‘forgotten reality’. That amidst the disease and death, there is the reality that each one of us possesses the wonders of the world within ourselves. In our unique selves, we are contributors to the life on this planet simply by breathing, by blinking our eyes, by singing or dancing, by reading or writing, by appreciating, by being truly present in the moment.

With the limited time that we have, do we really want a complicated life?

Will the last sands of time find you bitter and wanting? Or will it be a breath of parting Thank Yous for the sweet moments fought with burning passion, honor, and with the joy of fulfillment?

Circumstances shape the course of our history. We carve the roads we choose to take.
